rain, i see you smirkin’ at me

September 14, 2009 By: Silent Bob Category: general commentary, nerd stuff

rain, i see you smirking at me“Ben, why is the floor wet?” Becky is initiating questioning with the member of the family potty training currently. Immediately recognizing the response to that question would be good, I headed up the stairs to investigate. Thankfully for the young suspect, it turned out to be another source.
We’ve had almost non-stop rain for the last four days. As a result, I was made aware our new roof is solid and the seal around the heater vent had broken loose during the installation of said roof. The sometimes violent rain was dripping down the exhaust pipe into the attic. Ben was acquitted of all charges regarding puddle creation.
I stayed home today to remedy the situation. I took advantage of the time off to work on a few other things around there that never seem to get done with the kids around. Something about paint cans and toddlers that makes me nervous.
Learned something else important today as well. Don’t like the steep pitch on my roof. I REALLY don’t like it when the roof is wet. I was really pretty lucky, though. It was only sprinkling while I was on the roof today, and the ceiling is drying well and probably won’t require much work to fix the damage. (A project for later…)
I also used the time to get the weather station back up and running as it should. Things seem to be functioning normally again. Sorry about the downtime. This machine is now set to backup more frequently. I’m also looking for a inexpensive alternative/backup for this one. I would rather not have to go through that hassle again.
I promise to post something your are interested in (read: pictures of the kids) soon.

thank you to the veterans!

November 11, 2004 By: Silent Bob Category: general commentary

{{entrysubject}}I just wanted to take a quick moment to honor our many veterans today on Veteran’s Day. In today’s hectic world, we don’t pause often enough to think of the great sacrifices our soldiers have made for this country. I’d like to take a moment to thank them all for helping to protect not only our freedom here at home but honorably protecting our neighbors around the globe as well.

Even in a time like today where you may or may not agree politically with a conflict, I think we can all come together to celebrate our brave men and women who stand strong and are willing to die in order to preserve everything we hold precious as American’s! I cannot put into words the gratitude that I feel toward each of the soldiers who nobly defend our country and its ideals! “Thank You” for enabling me to live in the greatest country in the world!

texas snowpeople

February 14, 2004 By: Silent Bob Category: general commentary

{{entrysubject}}We were rewarded with a Valentine’s Day treat this year. Snow in Texas! And I’m talking about honest to goodness snow. Not the typical ice or – at best – icy mix we usually get once every year or two. It was a beautiful site to see the giant flakes tumbling down earlier today. Unfortunately, like is also the case here in Texas, by midafternoon the rise in temperature was quickly taking its toll on the snow. I expect by tomorrow, most of it will be completely gone. While it lasted, we did accumulate 3 or 4 inches.

Before everything melted away, I took a quick drive around the neighborhood and snapped photos of the snowpeople my neighbors had rolled together. (Plus, I didn’t have to get my own hands cold that way… ;) ) It was nice change to the typical winter face of Texas. Click here to see for yourself.
